Eating Sweet Potatoes

Nathan has been enjoying the sweet potatoes.  It's amazing to see how he shows his preference after only really having 3 tastes so far of solid food - cereal (which he loves!), avocado, and sweet potato.  Since his primary food is breast milk, he's not really eating much of anything... just about a teaspoon of sweet potato and 1 oz. of cereal.  He sure enjoys it though and tries to help get the food in his mouth!

Nathan & Daddy

Nathan loves his daddy!  Of course, Daddy gets him to laugh more and play with all sorts of things.

We had tried to stop swaddling Nathan because he started rolling over onto his belly even while swaddled.  It went well Tuesday night with him sleeping in his jammies and a blanket over his legs.  Wednesday night was not so successful.  We ended up swaddling him and he kept rolling which made Barry extra paranoid.  We don't know what to think, but Nathan sleeps better being swaddled.  I guess we'll try again and see what happens.  What to do....

Momma & Nathan

Good Morning! :)

We need to do another family picture, but since Nathan is easily distracted and doesn't know to look at the camera, we need to have someone else take it.  Hopefully, we can get one soon.  For now, we'll just have to do one-on-one.

Two for Tuesday

 "I'm a walrus." :)
Nathan's taken to chewing on these beads and letting them hang out of his mouth.  Too cute!

One of the girls at work is getting married in about a month.  We're having a shower for her after work today.  My department went in together for the gift and I made the card.  Isn't it cool how it matches the tissue paper?  I used the black polka dot paper (that I like so much!), some heart paper, and then I cut out a heart that I adhered with 3d tape.  Inside I wrote best wishes.

Nathan's Tie

A friend from our small group at church made this super cute onesy for us.  I've been excited for Nathan to wear it (even still it is a little big) as it's unusual from the monkey-dinosaur-sports themed outfits that are typical for boys.  (I had tried to get him to sit up for this picture, but he fell over too quickly and lost interest in trying to sit!)

He's ready for a day at the office!

Getting his toes

I've been trying for several days to get a picture of this, but each time I get the camera out, Nathan stops doing it!  It's most hilarious when I'm feeding him cereal and he takes a "piggy break"!  He does try to get the right foot in his mouth, but he isn't as flexible, I guess, because he can't get it.

New thing for today -- Nathan is yelling.  Yes, yelling!  I finally started calling his name in a soft voice so that he would stop.  Who knows what was going through his mind... hopefully he's not that disruptive when he's at daycare!

Talking

I had been trying to come up with an idea of something else to video to show what Nathan has been doing.  He cooperated with me this morning and was talking!
Here's the cutey hanging out in his exersaucer!
Another smile!

It's Friday!

Look!  I did it! :)  I sat by myself!!!!

Each time when he fell this morning, he'd fall flat on his face and then he'd roll over.  I wasn't quick enough to get the face plant.  I would laugh and he'd look at me like, "Momma, what is going on?!"

He would sit for 10-15 seconds much more steadily than before and then fall over.

Teething Bracelet

"Look at what I got!"

A friend told us about this jewelry that is made for mothers but is okay for babies to chew on.  She gave us this awesome bracelet.  Nathan immediately put it in his mouth and started chewing away.

Thanks, Mrs. Jordan! :)

Learning to eat...

Nathan is getting better and better at eating.  He wants to help get the spoon to his mouth which means that his hands are often full of cereal!  The avocado is coming along, but he'll start gagging after a few bites.  I think that it just may be too thick for him right now.  We'll see!

Two* for Tuesday

* I snuck in three today!

Nathan's getting a little more steadier when he sits up -- I think the record has to be 10-15 seconds now!  I did have to hold his hand for the picture though because he was trying to grab for the camera!

He's Daddy's boy for sure!

New Food - Avocado!

"I get to try a new food today?!"

"Um... It wasn't too bad!"

We're trying to be good sports and try some new foods!  It's been two weeks of cereal already so we're trying to get a new food in Nathan's system.  He didn't seem to mind the avocado at first and ate quite a few bites of it.  Then he started getting a little crazy with it and got it on his cheek.  Finally, when Momma was still not getting the idea that he was done eating it, he started gagging on it.  Oops!

We're going to keep trying for a few more days.  (Hopefully he likes it, because there is a TON more!)  I've got the sweet potato too, but that is going to require some prep work before I can serve that... so it'll be the new food next week!

Awwwww!

Poor thing!  He was wiped after a great morning at church.  Notice all the toys in his lap!

A fun Saturday...

We had opportunity to visit with my boss (Mary, in the white shirt) this weekend as she has been longing to see Nathan.  Her daughter is pregnant and due in late January.  The last time her daughter & son-in-law saw Nathan was in the hospital so they just marveled at how big he was.
With Mrs. Mary & Mr. Alex
Serious face!
 Mrs. Mary loves Nathan!

 With Mrs. Jordan
With his "man crush" - Mr. Dylan!
We had a great time! :)

Lauging

When we picked up Nathan from daycare yesterday, the worker says, "He has a Gerber baby laugh!"  Nathan does indeed have a fun laugh and Barry can get him laughing almost at will.  He just starts kissing and tickling his neck/upper chest.  It's a fun sound to hear.

I caught Nathan in a laugh last night.  He wasn't quite sure if he would laugh or cry.  He has been so tired when he comes home from daycare and we can hardly get him to eat, get dinner made and eaten, before he's just whiney and wanting to be held.  He's fallen asleep before 7pm each night with hardly a fight.  We are definitely looking forward to the weekend so that we can enjoy him!

Happy Friday!

Card Project for Work

I was commissioned by my department to create some cards for some leaders in our organization.  I've been working on them a while since there were 10 to write up!

I used 4 different papers and the emblem for the organization.  I can't say that I followed a particular template, but just kind of put things together.  I rounded the corners off of the brown paper to help it stand out more.  I used cream organdy ribbon across the bottom.  I had hoped to put a pearl accent on the cards, but it just didn't look right.  I did each lady's initial on the card.

Slippers

My sister made these darling slippers for Nathan.  He does pretty well with them and keeps them on his feet.
Since they're fabric, we can wash them which is a very good feature since they got peed on one day.
She also did his initials on the bottom so that you know who he is!

This morning Nathan rolled from his back to his belly for the first time.  Go, baby! :)

Two for Tuesday

Can you believe that 1 year ago - this exact day - I had this little bump?!  (Sorry the picture quality is so poor, but you get the idea!)
Here our little one is... hanging out with his daddy, being so cute!

I've had a friend or two who've recently had birthdays and have remarked how differently their lives are today than a year ago.  That got me to thinking and I was glad that I remembered this picture taken before a bridal shower that I had gone to.  How much our lives have changed in one year!

How amazing our God is that He cares so much to give us this miracle!

It's been ONE week!

Six months was August 6 and we started that day with cereal.  Each day last week we had cereal as we're teaching Nathan how to handle food coming on a spoon.
Today, marked a full week of cereal eating...
Yum, yum!

Next week, we'll introduce another flavor -- bananas, sweet potato, or avocado -- haven't quite decided which yet.  He's only eating 1/2 to 3/4 of an ounce.  Just getting a taste of what solids are so another world of opportunities is opened to him!

Big Boy

We've been telling Nathan that if he wears a shirt that doesn't snap between his legs, that he's a big boy!  Well, today, he's wearing a big boy shirt and some pretty awesome shoes!  He much prefers to stand up in your lap than to sit, so we tried to have him stand up on the floor to have this picture.  He wasn't so keen on that!

He's in an awkward place again where a variety of sized clothing fits.  He'll wear a 6 month onesy that is tight with a pair of 3 month shorts one day and then the next he'll wear a one piece outfit that's 9 months it'll be too tight.  Then he'll wear a onesy that's 3-6 months and it'll be just right.  The joys of dressing a baby!

Hope you had a great Sunday!

Saturday Fun

We were hopeful that this weekend we wouldn't be awoken at 5:45am to start the day and thankfully it wasn't the case.  He did get up at 6, but then fell back asleep in bed with Barry & I until 7.  7am is a little more manageable than 5:45am!
Nathan's hanging out with Daddy, telling him stories!

Look at me! :)  I'm super strong!

We had a full morning -- getting groceries (waiting for the sun to dry up the grass some), mowing, and taking a nap.

Nathan's schedule is very fluid on the weekends -- it wasn't this way before, but now with his interest increasing in the world around him, he can't stay focused on eating for very long.  We've been eating every 2 hours, or 3 hours, or 4 hours just depending on how focused he is.  So, it's been good that our scheduled can be flexible to accomodate him.

6 Months Old

Can you believe that it's time for another turtle picture?  Here's the photos we took:
"I'm trying to sit up on my OWN!"
"Okay, fine.  You can help me!"
"What if I just give a big hug to the turtle?"

Nathan had his 6 month well-baby visit on Thursday.  I had lots of questions and the nurse practitioner was good to answer everything.  Nathan had a 4 shots as we started the series of shots for flu too.  Here's his stats:  He's now 27.75 inches long (he grew 1 3/4 inches since the 4 month check-up) which puts him in the 88th percentile and he's 16 pounds, 13 ounces (2 lbs, 3 oz more since 4 months) which puts him in the 36th percentile.

Reading Books

We love to read books and do so almost every day.  This is one of my favorites, God Gave Us You, by Lisa Tawn Bergren.  Nathan's cousin Emma gave it to him when he was born.

Typically, Nathan can stay still to read 3 books in one sitting.  He turns the pages and looks at the pictures.  We love to read!

Cards

This card is for my friend Judy's birthday on the 9th.  I used purple as the theme and had 4 papers.  I created my own J and adhered it with 3d tape.  I used some flowers to add a feminine touch.
These are thank yous for ladies at my work.  The three that are the same are for my co-workers in my department and the other one was for a different friend.  I love this polka dot paper and will need to look for more!  They are just the 2"x3" little cards.  I used some cream organdy ribbon and added some red flowers that I had in my stash.
This card is for our niece who had her 10th birthday on Tuesday.  I used the butterfly paper to get the colors and then added the 5 other papers to make the card.  I used some pink grossgrain ribbon and then a letter M for her name.

Two for Tuesday

Nathan's been trying to (okay, you got me, I've been trying to get him to) sit up. We practice in the morning before going to daycare when he's a little more alert.
Yesterday, he fell over on his belly and then wasn't sure what to think.
Today, I helped him sit up and he did it on his own for 3-5 seconds.  He's not so sure why I'm excited for him, but he's trying!

Something new today is that he was clingy at daycare this morning.  He wanted me to hold him -- which normally Barry is the one to pass him off -- and then when I gave him to Mrs. Jenny Lee, he wanted to come back to me.  Hope this isn't the beginning of the clingy stage.

Personality? For sure!

Nathan has increasingly gotten more and more vocal -- I think it makes him happy to see how loud he can get!  He loves to laugh and play with his daddy, too.

He's 6 months old today and is sure showing us that he's got some spunk!  We love our baby!

A new trick

Nathan had a grand old time in his exer-saucer this weekend.  There is a jumpy chair at daycare that he loves and so I think he thought that this was the same thing.  What a delight he took in jumping in this!  It was quite noisy too so that made it even better! :)

Lazy Day Saturday

Awwwww!
Nathan woke up at 5:45am on Saturday and my great husband got up with him so that I could sleep longer.  Of course, by the time I got up -- around 8am, this is what I found!
