Shut You Out

Zachy has figured out how to shut the door...

What, me?!?

He likes to cruise around the tiny bathroom what bit of wall is available, so getting behind the door and moving down the shower area is about the best you can do. Of course, we'll make it into a silly game and tell him "Oh no! Where is Zachy?" :)

Showing off his Sunday Best

Despite all my attempts, I couldn't get Zach to look at me. It was nap time and he was just not working with me. Still, he's a cutie!

"It was this big!"
This is one of the fun things of this age. He holds onto your pants/legs and walks with you.

Sunday Swim

It was a sunny hot day so we decided to go to the wading pool at the local park. We played and played and played. The boys did great with Daddy getting them soaked and messing around with them. It's great to have this opportunity to play.

Library Visit

We used to be faithful Saturday library visitors. In fact, if we three didn't go in together, the librarians would ask where the missing person(s) were. But, then Zach came and life got more complicated. We'd go once or twice in a few months and then pretty much we dropped off completely. It was sad. We were reading the same books over and over at home.

We went to the library in Mount Juliet a few weeks ago and then the last two we have made it to Lebanon.

Hurray for reading!

Flashback Friday

We're continuing on with our vacation with Nana & Papa to Sioux Falls. We arrived Sunday evening and started our time Monday with hitting the highlights of town -- my brother's school, downtown, and then to a park at the falls. The following pictures were from Monday, May 23.
Zachy took a picture with his uncle... The only time that he got to wear this onesie.
 Nathan with his cousins
Nathan (scared to be) by an eagle
Nathan (freaked out to be) by a horse statue
Nathan and Jeremy playing (also his cousin was there)
Barry and Zachy watching the boys playing
Everybody by the falls

"Soul on Fire"

Nathan has been singing with the radio for a while now and each time it's so cute to hear him trying to sing along. One of his favorites right now has been "Soul on Fire" by Third Day.

Since Barry's work now ships for Provident, he has access to different CDs now and guess who he picked up the other day??? Third Day - Soul on Fire!

I've been trying to catch him singing so here we are, singing along in the car.
(You have to download it from File Dropper and then play it with your audio player.)

Two for Wednesday

(It just doesn't have the same ring to it as Two for Tuesday.)

I hadn't taken a picture of Zachy for a little bit and thought I'd get him on the rocking chair.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get a picture of him smiling, but here he is being cute!
Poor thing has a terrible diaper rash so it was rough with bath time. He has been working again on sleep training and doing well (thank goodness!).

Here's a picture of Nathan about the same age - 13 months plus. He was showing off his front teeth.

Practicing Printing

I don't know if it was a rude awakening or what, but we were told in order to get Nathan in the preschool class at daycare, he needed to work on a few things. Personally, I don't see how she can set these demands when the rooms have been based on age - not ability.

So, we've been working on printing Nathan's name and also colors & shapes so that he will be able to move up. What do you think?! It's hard to tell since he wrote in green too, but I wrote three of them and then he wrote three.

Playing

We were helping Daddy with the crib, but of course by the time I got the camera, they were done with that.
This was a funny shot to get as Zachy had the paci sideways.  He has frequently done this during the teething process but it was fun to get a shot of this in the midst of hanging out.
We tried another thing to help Zach with sleeping at night.  We moved his crib down to the lowest level to see if that would make it less appealing to stand and cry. Guess we'll see what happens.

Friday Flashback

As we finish up the month of May, we end up with some firsts.
5/14/16 Zach's first bath in the bathtub! It was hard for him at first with all the freedom, but he's done surprisingly well. With Nathan, we kept him in an inflatable tub till he was much older. Guess this is the bonus of having an older brother.
5/15/16 Woo hoo! Tent time. :)
5/21/16 Our first vacation! We spent time at the Clydesdales in St. Louis.
5/21/16 We went inside Grant Farm and saw elephants.
5/22/16 Hanging out in the hotel before the next phase of the trip!

Hanging Out in the Crib

This little cutie has figured out how to pull up in the crib and we're to the point that we need to drop the bed down to the lowest level.
I guess there's a sleep regression at 12 months and we're struggling through how to get him to go to sleep and stay asleep. He had learned this a while ago, but with this regression, he's forgotten how to do it himself. I think we've got another round of sleep training to go. :(

Look what fun you can have in bed!

Two for Tuesday

Zachy had been walking a little funny in his sandals so we thought it may be time to try running shoes. We pulled out Nathan's first pair (a size 3!) and had them wear them today.  I don't recall how old Nathan really was when he wore them, but there's a post from June when he'd have been 4 months old when Barry was trying for Nathan to wear them (see here). He got the funniest look on his face and then lifted his legs up as he was trying how to walk with them on.

Nathan's daycare teacher had her birthday today. We decided to make her a card. Nathan requested a zebra, but since I don't know how to draw that, he settled for a polka-dotted horse. He picked each color and I helped him color the horse. Don't you think this was the most original card she got?!

Standing

Even after a long day, Zach still has the energy to walk up and down the hallway and practice standing on his own. Go, Zach!

He could do it for just a couple seconds, but he's making progress!

In the Box

We were cleaning out the office and heard Nathan yelling, "I'm in the box!" I knew that we had pulled out that Pampers box and couldn't figure out how he'd be in it, so I had to investigate. What a silly boy! :)

Brothers

What great brothers!
We did try our best to pose together, but both boys had other things on their minds and weren't too cooperative. When Nathan does well in daycare and gets two smiley faces (one for the morning, one for the afternoon), then he gets to play on the mee-ka-o [tablet]. So, he had already jumped on that when we got home and was watching a PBS show when I asked him to take a picture. Zach, well, he has a one track mind - FOOD!

What do you do when you get home from work or school? :)

Playing Trains

Nathan got a train set with track pieces for Christmas two years ago from his Michigan Stevens cousins. We've added pieces to it and have been looking for a while for additional track pieces. We finally found a reasonably priced set and Nathan & Daddy have enjoyed the different creations they can make now. They made a cool track Tuesday night and went to play with it again, but as you can see someone else had plans for it! :)

Nathan likes Thomas and Chuggington. Look at those chuggers!

NOT a Morning Person

Barry and I are not morning people. So, when we had Nathan who embraced the day with enthusiasm that couldn't be dampened, we adjusted our day to accommodate his early rising. Now with Zachy, we have had to adjust again! Zach likes to sleep in. In fact, over the last couple weeks, we have had mornings where I can nurse him, change his diaper, and dress him all with him staying asleep.

He has struggled with only getting one nap at daycare now as he's in the 1 year old room. When he was 10-11 months, he would go a couple days a week with one nap but would make up for it the next day. There's no option of that now. :(

Dead to the world - 5:50am... We're about ready to walk out the door.

Poor thing!

Zoo Venture

It was time for our monthly trek to the zoo, and since the highs were going to be in the 80's we thought it would be a good day to go (Sunday after church). Let me just say, IT WAS HOT! Whew! We sweated, and sweated, and sweated some more.

Here are some highlights to this month's trip:
Our first stop this time was at the playground.  Nathan loves to play on this huge wooden structure. He wanted us to go in the snake, but the opening is too small for either Barry or I to fit.
We brought cash this time so Daddy & Nathan went for a train ride.
This is the only place where you can see horses.
 Zachy and I watched :)
We got our picture with the sign (FINALLY!), but it wasn't very pretty...
[Sorry, Zach!]
Oh well. We can try again, right?!
Next time... You wanna join us next month?!
