Can you believe it? Snow #3!

Looking from the back porch, you can see this snow isn't as bad as it was on January 30th. They say that we got about 1/2 inch. BUT, the problem was that it rained all last evening so when the temperatures dropped after midnight, everything turned to ice.
So, my office called at 6am to say that we were delayed 1 hour and Barry decided not to risk leaving until 7. As we're driving (very slowly, I may add) on the side roads to get to the interstate, we find out that they have CLOSED the interstate! Over 30 accidents were reported in about a 15 mile stretch. So, we ended up taking Hwy. 70 to Nashville. It was a very long drive -- it took more than 1 hour.
Here's the view from my office window. Can you see it snowing?! It really is! It's not too bad though because we finally did get our pizza lunch (since it was a snow day)! The problem will be with another night of below freezing temps. Tomorrow the high is 31. We'll see what happens!

Valentine cards

This is a simple card - that uses pink as it's theme! I added pink ribbon with hearts on it, a quote on pink paper, some white ric-rac, and some pink cardboard hearts. The quote says, "There is no surprise more magical than the surprise of being loved" (by Charles Morgan). Inside it says, "Happy Valentine's Day!"
This is approximately 3 in. x 3 in. and comes with an envelope. I added the red paper with hearts on it, white organdy ribbon, and two hearts. I wrote Happy Valentine's Day toward the bottom.

This card is 3in. x 4 in. The envelope is cute with the little white flowers on the yellow background. I used a variety of papers that had red in them, added the white organdy ribbon, and a cardboard love that I had painted red.

As you can see from the following pictures, I made a TON of these little valentines. They are approx. 2 in. by 3 in. and are for the most part blank on the back. I added all manner of items to the front -- ribbon, metallic hearts, sequins, hearts with 3d tape... Almost all of them have been picked up -- just 5 left!

I sold these at work to earn some gas money until the next paycheck. Thankfully, I sold almost all of them. Isn't it great how God provides?!

Winter Weather (Again!)

Can you believe it?! We had another snow storm! This time we had a bit more snow -- about 3 inches -- and unfortunately ice. Here I am all bundled up (with my Michigan snow boots on!!!) to go out to church so that we could get things ready for the service on Sunday. (Yes, we did have church -- all 3 services -- even though the rest of the town stayed home.)
The snow was so high this time that the little lantern by the front porch was almost covered up. This view is from our driveway, looking down the street. You can see the road is covered as well. It took till today (Thursday) before all the schools in the Nashville vicinity were opened. The roads kept freezing over each night, but after 3 days of highs in the 40's, it's finally almost all gone.

They're calling for snow on Saturday...

Calligraphy Project

Granted, this picture is over a month old, but I found it again today and wanted to post it. I made up 5 or 6 of these family names for a co-worker for Christmas gifts. It's a fairly easy process -- I use a wider nib to write the last name portion and then switch to a smaller nib to write all the names. It's an easy project and has a lot of meaning for the family.

I've made these for over 7 years now! It all started when I did one up for a family I knew that had 6 children (later 7!) as I thought it was personal and something that they didn't have. I have done them off and on for people (and have had to revise a few when another child joins the family). Mat it & put it in a frame and there you go!

Bob's Birthday Wishes

I used a variety of letters to spell out, "wishing you..." The candle is popping out as I used 3-d tape to adhere it to the card. This is a very simple design, but suitable for a man.
And here's the inside -- I wrote with my favorite font "...a happy birthday!"

Hope Bob has a happy birthday!
